Toei Animation Co., Ltd. is proud to announce that the release of a newly produced original animation about Kyoto tour with the guide by Ikkyu-san on promoting tourism to Kyoto on the web sites below.

This short movie is produced as part of the “Jidaigeki (Samurai dramas) Renaissance Project” that is to encourage more people from abroad to visit Kyoto, so that they can find and experience Kyoto’s beauty, entertainment and comfort. This project is supported by many organizations and individuals including Kyoto Tourism Association. Toei Studios Kyoto, INTAGE Inc. and Beans Co.,Ltd. are in charge of operation of this project.
The TV series Ikkyu-san was one of Toei Animation’s popular title broadcast from 1975 through 1982 on the TV Asahi network.. Ikkyu-san is a Buddhist monk who lived in 15th century in Japan. However, the series was so popular that most people associate the name with our animated character.
The Ikkyu-san series has also been very popular in China, and has been shown repeatedly since it was first broadcast in 1983. Accordingly, the project are using Ikkyu-san’s characters especially promoting tourism for China.
As previously announced, we are currently producing a new theatrical movie of Ikkyu-San for China jointly with the Chinese media company - Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and the Chinese kids channel – Toonmax. The movie will be released across China in 2012.
