Doremi’s family and the girls visit Doremi’s grandparents. They have a great time playing in the river and enjoying the countryside… only Sophie seems to be scared of Doremi’s grandpa. One evening, Granny tells the girls the story of the Frog Stone, which is an old holy stone built in memory of Mayuri, a young woman who committed suicide after the death of her lover, Zenjuro. The girls also learn the legend of the Laughing Moon, when magical creatures lose their magical power and the mountain becomes oddly silent. Curious about the Frog Stone, the girls secretly go look for it in the mountain the next day. It is the night of the Laughing Moon, and they find out that they indeed lose their magical power. They soon get lost in the mountain, but by using the lyrics of a nursery song as a clue, they finally find the Frog Stone. There, Sophie reveals her traumatic experience with her own grandfather. Then suddenly, a masked man appears before them. Doremi thinks it is the ghost of Zenjuro when in fact it is her grandpa, who came to look for them. Doremi asks him to fix the broken mask of a woman she found by the Frog Stone, which puts the lovers’ spirits to peace at last. Back at the house, Sophie softens her thoughts about Grandpa, who is then showered with love by his granddaughters and their friends.
