For about forty years, Panda's Adventures was Toei Animation Co., Ltd.'s last original feature-length film not based on a pre-existing story. That is, until November 15th saw the release of the original theatrical animation Expelled from Paradise (distributed by T-Joy with cooperation from Toei; produced by Toei Animation Co., Ltd.). Currently screening at Shinjuku Wald 9 and various other theaters, it's turning out to be a record-setting smash hit amongst original animation productions.
Plans are now underway for a global launch, beginning with North American theatrical screenings.
Expelled from Paradise opened in thirteen theaters nationwide on November 15th (Saturday), and its weekend box-office revenue topped ¥29,000,000. The small number of venues is due to the film debuting as part of a special screening event. However, on opening day (Saturday, Nov. 15th) at the main venue--Shinjuku Wald 9--all showings except those late at night filled every seat. On Sunday the 16th, the morning and daytime showings were once again sold out.
Starting in December 2014, the film is scheduled to open in location after location across North America!

Where did we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?
A first-class piece of entertainment has come about, combining a magnificent sci-fi vision with spectacular action. It's called Expelled from Paradise.
Directing Expelled from Paradise is Mobile Suit Gundam 00's Seiji Mizushima. The script is written by Puella Magi Madoka Magica's Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus). This film is the first original theatrical production for either member of this two-man top creator team, and it's garnering enthusiastic attention from all sides.
The story begins when the cyberworld DEVA, where humanity lives in peace, undergoes mysterious hacking. What is the hacking's aim? Angela the investigator descends to the ruined surface, along with a mobile exoskeleton suit called an Ahan.
This large-scale vision of the future was born of Urobuchi's imagination, and the powerful staff, led by director Mizushima, has realized it with a sweeping visual style. The sense of presence of its 3DCG-depicted characters is one reason why the cutting edge of the visual entertainment world is right here.
The cast includes Rie Kugimiya, Shi-nichiro Miki and Hiroshi Kamiya. This line-up of talented individuals has supported Mizushima's works in the past, and they breathe life into the film's very human characters.
Come witness the event called Expelled from Paradise.
With Earth now left in ruins following the “Nano Hazard,” most of humanity has abandoned the planet they once called home along with their physical bodies and rebuilt their digitalized minds into a society within the cyber universe of “DEVA.” A.D. 2400, DEVA’s central council detects an incident of unauthorized access into their mainframe. Someone on Earth was trying to hack into the system. The only information DEVA was able to retrieve was that the hacker referred to themselves as “Frontier Setter.” To investigate the mysterious hacker’s motives, the high officials of DEVA dispatch System Security Third Officer Angela Balzac to the Earth’s surface. Equipped with a prosthetic “material body,” Angela attempts to make contact with a local agent Dingo, but what awaited her instead was a swarm of Sandworms now infesting the Earth’s surface. Angela intercepts the gruesome pests with her exoskeletal powered suit Arhan. Will Angela and Dingo be able to find Frontier Setter on this devastated planet? Their journey to explore the secrets of the world will begin now…!
